Rehabilitation from a Whiplash Injury

Whiplash is a term used to describe an injury to the neck that most commonly occurs in a motor vehicle accident. It affects the soft tissues of the neck, muscles, tendons, ligaments, discs, but can also involve the spinal joints both in the cervical and the upper thoracic regions. It typically presents as pain, stiffness and loss of movement in the neck and upper back. Other associated symptoms can include headaches, dizziness and anxiety, pain with or without tingling/numbness in the shoulders, arms or hands.

At dundalk physical therapy we will work with you to ensure an early return to normal activity. Patient education and activity modification are an important part of whiplash treatment, however we will also utilise joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, postural education, and strength and stretching exercises.
